San Francisco Public Utilities Commission HQ

Enpowered Solutions was the Commissioning Authority for the new San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Headquarters Building, resulting in it achieving LEED Platinum Certification. This project is unmatched in scale and complexity for an urban high rise commercial building, as many systems that have been installed are among the first installations of their kind in the country.

Project Scope

Through commissioning of HVAC, lighting, automated window shades, solar photovoltaics, wind turbines, plumbing, an Integrated Building Management System, and oversight on the installation of onsite grey water treatment system, we demonstrated our breadth of expertise in the commissioning domain. Enpowered utilized in-depth engineering knowledge for careful evaluation and testing of complex sequences for HVAC controls and automated shade controls, making deep impacts on system functionality through our integrated approach to controls.

Improved Occupant Comfort

The Integrated Building Management System for this building provides unified monitoring for subsystems such as HVAC, lighting, fire & life safety, elevators, and window shade controls. Given the complexity of this integration, there are very few such systems existing in the commercial building industry.

Enpowered developed in-house expertise and knowledge-base on the IBMS and led the overall coordination efforts with the design and construction team, from conceptualization of the system features and functionality in the design phase through to defining detailed testing and commissioning methodologies during construction. Despite the complexity of the project’s cutting-edge technology integration, we found that occupant education was one of the most valuable tools in delivering a highly-functional yet comfortable indoor environment. Training the owner’s facilities staff as well as building occupants during the early stages of occupancy helped foster a sense of empowerment that improved occupant comfort and satisfaction with the new systems.
